South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix held a video conference with officials of Wuxi, eastern China's Jiangsu Province, on strengthening cooperation in the city and exploring technological innovation in IC and other fields on December 28.

Noh Jong-Won, President of SK Hynix, said that his company would continue to increase investment in Wuxi and improve its Wuxi factory's competitiveness through technological upgrades. By cooperating with Wuxi's enterprises, SK Hynix hopes to build a strong local supply chain.

Du Xiaogang, Secretary of the CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee, commented, "Wuxi will promote high-quality development and modernization, which needs the active participation and support of all old friends, including SK Hynix."

Noh Jong-Won expressed appreciation to Wuxi for its long-term support for SK Hynix's China project development. "Wuxi has provided us timely help, especially in the acquisition of Intel's NAND flash memory and SSD business," he said.

SK Hynix established its presence in Wuxin in 2005, having invested over $20 billion, making it the largest foreign investment project in Jiangsu Province. Wuxi city government supports SK Hynix with a special team to help with its new projects.

Wuxi is the No.3 IC industry city in China after Shanghai and Shenzhen. It is home to many other important IC companies.

In October 2021, SK Hynix and Wuxi announced to work on a $310 million China-Korea IC Industrial Park.

Located in the National Hi-Tech District in the city, the project intends to become Wuxi's new center for IC developments and cover the full industry chain of design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, equipment, and materials.

It will attract the leading IC companies that operate successfully in the city. They include SK Hynix, Huahong Semiconductor (华虹), China Resources Microelectronics (华润微), and National Center for Advanced Packaging (华进). It aims at becoming a national-level IC industry model base.
