Huawei announced establishing ten special business groups in its headquarters in Shenzhen, with its founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei attending the event on April 4. This is the second time for Huawei to announce such business groups to tackle geopolitical changes.

The newly announced ten business groups will focus on digital electric power, government affairs automation, airport and railway, interactive media, sport and healthcare, display, industrial parks, wide area network, data center base, and digital site.

Huawei’s “special group” is inspired by those in Google, consisting of doctors, scientists, engineers, and marketing experts with fifty or sixty people and has a goal of being the best in the world. Ren Zhengfei explained that “they would never quit unit they make it.”

“We adopt this from Google to build a direct connection between customer needs and us providing solutions, product development, and maintenance, which is faster in delivering client needs and reduces material consumption and loss during delivery. Faced with more and more challenges amid the current geopolitical situations, our company must stabilize its position and firmly create value for customers. So we must adopt flexible strategies and tactics,” added Ren.

In October 2021, Huawei set up the first batch of five special groups, focusing on coal mines, general customs and ports, smart roads, data center energy, and smart photovoltaics.

The first batch of special groups were all supervised by Ren himself and graded as first-level departments like its current BUs.

It was reported at the beginning of 2022 that Ren issued a document to set up the second batch at the end of 2021 and appointed ten managers.
