Beijing Open Source IC Academy officially goes into operation to promote RISC-V processor

Beijing Open Source IC Academy (BOSIA开芯院) has started its official operation after four months of preparation, according to Bao Yungang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and member of the Council of the RISC-V International.

Affiliated with the Institute of Computing Technology of CAS, the academy launched the first batch of new projects related to the RISC-V open-source processor "XiangShan," one of the earliest in China.  

Beijing Open Source IC Academy was founded on December 3, 2021, with a registered capital of RMB79 million ($12.40 million), according to information from company registration platforms. It focuses on academic study, technology research and development, achievement transformation, business consulting, business training, and cooperation communication in open source chip technologies.

"XiangShan" is a high-performance open-source RISC-V processor project co-developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Pengcheng Laboratory, a new research institute located in Beijing, focusing on the network communications, cyberspaces, and web intelligence, and Vcore, an open-source processor start-up in Beijing.
