Quanta(广达), a key Taiwanese electronics manufacturing service(EMS) supplier for Apple’s Macbook, halted its production in Shanghai as a result of the city’s lockdown, which may cause delays in Macbook shipment, according to tech industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who revealed the information on Twitter.

Kuo tweeted that Quanta is almost the sole EMS supplier for MacBook that are manufactured in Shanghai area and could be the most affected products.

Taiwan-based business news web ANUE quoted Kuo as saying that iPhone assembler Pegatron(和硕) and iPad assembler Compal(仁宝) also suspended production in and near Shanghai to comply with the local government’s COVID-19 prevention regulations. Kuo added that Foxconn could partially support iPhone and iPad supply to lower the impacts of discontinued operations at Pegatron and Compal.

In the Taiwan region, the Omicron variant also poses challenges to the industries. An employee of Quanta was diagnosed with COVID-19 last weekend. Quanta said that the relevant surface disinfection and cleaning practices had been completed, and relevant employees who came into contact with the confirmed case were quickly screened and tested, and the result is currently negative. At the same time, those employees have been asked to work from home.
