China’s EV giant BYD debuted two new EVs models, Tang SUV and Han sedan, in Mexico and will work with eight local distributors to launch them in the country in 2023, JW Insights reported on November 30.
Zou Zhou, the head of BYD’s Mexican division, said, “We are delighted that BYD has taken a further step in Mexico. In the past nine years, we have made progress in new energy taxi, truck and forklift market, and now we are ushering in a new chapter of Mexican passenger vehicles.” Zou made the remark at a test drive event for media in Mexico on November 29.
Meanwhile, BYD announced that it has reached cooperation with eight Mexico dealers, including Grupo Continental, Grupo Cleber, Grupo Dalton, Grupo Excelencia, Grupo Farrera, Grupo Fame, Liverpool and Grupo del Rincón, to provide high-quality sales and after-sales services of new EVs to local consumers.
“We hope to sell 10,000 vehicles in Mexico in 2023 and between 20,000 and 30,000 in 2024. And the long-term goal is to reach around 10% of total market share. We aim to sell cars through 15 licensed dealers in Mexico by the end of 2023 and hit 30 by 2024,” Zou added.
According to a German data company Statista, half of the pollutant emissions in Mexico are generated from electric power consumption and transportation, among which one-fifth comes from vehicle exhaust emissions. Therefore, reducing vehicle emissions will be the priority of sustainable development. Green transport is expected to be the main trend in Mexico and the world.
Zhang Jin, the commercial director of BYD’s Mexican division, said, “To better cope with global industrial transformation and the changing consumption trends, BYD will maintain its focus on technological innovation, providing our clients a better life with innovative products.”
