HiSilicon (海思), Chinese tech giant Huawei’s chip arm has its market share of Kirin chipsets dropped to almost zero in Q3 from 0.4% in Q2, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest Global Smartphone AP-SOC Shipment & Forecast Tracker by Model - Q3 2022, JW Insights reported on December 21.
This means Huawei has finished the inventory for the Hisilicon chipsets. It is also not possible for the brand to obtain newer chipsets from TSMC and Samsung because of the trade ban, said Counterpoint.
MediaTek has ranked first in the global smartphone chipset market share for eight consecutive quarters while its market share has dropped from 38% to 35%. Its shipments will decline in Q4 2022 due to order cuts from major Chinese OEMs.
In addition, the market share of the second-ranked Qualcomm rose from 29% to 31%, and Apple rose by 3% to 16% as No. 3, while UNISOC and Samsung both dropped by 1%, accounting for 10% and 7% respectively.
