Executive secretary-general of China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA), Wang Junjie, called on China's IC industry to concentrate on technological breakthroughs in face of today's complex and changing international industry environment, JW Insights reported.

Wang delivered a keynote speech at the CSIA-ICCAD 2022 Annual Conference & Xiamen IC Industry Innovation and Development Summit held on December 26 and 27 in Xiamen, southeastern Fujian Province.

"Discard any illusions and a blacksmith has to have a strong body," Wang said, quoting a popular Chinese saying. "All the blows should push us to double efforts in developing our own industry," he commented, reviewing recent US moves in developing its semiconductor industry and containing Chinese IC companies.

"As far as the US is concerned, IC has become its national strategy and top project," At the same time, there are signs of de-sinicization in the US industry supply chain and a "small yard with high fences" is shaping up to take initial effect.

Related US departments pay close attention to China's high-tech industries, and Wang warned domestic enterprises to guard on information security, comply with related regulations and avoid exaggerated publicity.

"China's IC industry chain still has investment value for the global industry chain. Chinese IC design industry has not only the advantage of scale, our overall capability is rising, and will make continuous contributions to the building of the global industry's ecosystem," he added.

"Concerning global market, all major semiconductor industry regions in the world have their unique advantages, so our Chinese semiconductor industry needs to build our own strengths. And IC design is a great opportunity where Chinese firms can achieve breakthroughs," he said.

CSIA hopes to strengthen communication with the industry and promote innovative practices to create China's unique semiconductor research competitiveness and innovative R&D system, said Wang.
