BYD, China’s biggest EV maker, was once again the top seller of new energy vehicles among Chinese manufacturers last month, reported Yicai Global on January 3.
NEV sales jumped 150% to 235,197 in December from a year ago, the Shenzhen-based carmaker said on January 2. The annual figure more than tripled to nearly 1.9 million.
Meanwhile, China’s EV startups - GAC Aion (广汽埃安), Li Auto (理想汽车), Nio (蔚来汽车),Xpeng Motors (小鹏汽车) and Leapmotor (零跑汽车) - released their December delivery results.
GAC Aion sold 30,007 electric vehicles last month, up 107 percent from a year earlier, it said on January 1. Sales rose a record 126% to 271,000 for the whole of 2022.
Li Auto delivered a monthly record of 21,233 cars to customers in December, a gain of 41 percent on a year ago, the firm said on January 1. Annual deliveries jumped 47% to 133,246.
Nio also set a single-month delivery record of 15,815, a year-on-year increase of 51 %, with the full-year number climbing 34% to 122,486, the automaker said on January 1.
Xpeng Motors shipments slid 29% to 11,292 NEVs in December from a year earlier, the company announced on January 1. Last year, its deliveries grew 23% to 120,757.
Leapmotor said it shipped 8,493 cars last month, up 8.8% from a year earlier, and handed over 111,168 autos to customers last year, a surge of 154%.
In addition, BYD’s rivals Tesla, Changan Auto (长安汽车), and Chinese joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile (上汽通用五菱汽车) have not yet announced their sales figures for December, according to Yicai Global.
