A total of 285.8 million smartphones were shipped in China in 2022, down 13.2% year-on-year (YoY) to below the 300 million mark for the first time in ten years, said the latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC).

In 4Q of 2022, the market declined 12.6% YoY to 72.9 million units.

China's top five smartphone manufacturers in 2022 were Vivo, Honor, OPPO, Apple, and Xiaomi. Honor, ranking second among them, was the only one that achieved year-on-year growth, at 34.4%, in 2022, said the IDC report.

Despite that, the folding screen market showed significant growth in China. Folding screen product shipments hit a new high of nearly 3.3 million in China in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 118%, faster than expected. Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, Honor, and Xiaomi ranked top six in China’s folding screen mobile phone market share.
