(JW Insights) Aug 30 -- China's shipments of personal computers (desktops, notebooks, workstations) fell by 19% year-on-year in the second quarter to 9.6 million units, with a lower decline than that in the first quarter. Lenovo still ranked first in China's PC market despite its shipment plummeting 24% year-on-year, according to the research firm Canalys, adding that the economic recovery in the second quarter of 2023 was weaker than expected.

HP and Huawei ranked second and third in the second quarter in China, with a year-on-year increase of 6% for both.

Dell had the most significant decline among top manufacturers, plummeting 52% year-on-year, with the market share hitting a new low in recent years. Apple grew 17% year-on-year, ranking fifth.

Xu Ying, an analyst at Canalys, said, "The economic recovery in China is lower than expected. The decline in exports, weak consumption, the slowdown in bank borrowing, and other signals all indicate that the IT industry, especially the PC market, will face further challenges." Canalys expects the annual shipments of PCs in China in 2023 to drop by 19% year-on-year.

In the country's tablet market in the second quarter of 2023, Apple ranked first with shipments of 2.3 million units, a year-on-year increase of 47%. Huawei ranked second, with shipments rising 19% year-on-year to 1.2 million units. Xiaomi ranked third, with a growth rate leading mainstream manufacturers.
