Earlier this month, U.S. Department of Commerce added seven Chinese supercomputing entities to the Entity List, alleging the seven were involved with military modernization that could imply national security threats to America. U.S. has blocked Chinese technology accesses multiple times in the past, which drove China to increase investments and developments of its own technologies. Will history repeat itself again with supercomputing? JW Insights invited Dr. Jack Dongarra, author of TOP500, to talk about China’s challenge and opportunity with U.S. supercomputing sanctions. Dr. Dongarra holds appointments at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and teaches computer science at various universities.
