The IC industry sales of RMB100 billion ($15.5 billion) in a region has been taken as an important benchmark by the industry in China to measure the development. Six provinces and city hit the mark during the last five years; They are: Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang, and Shaanxi, a JW Insights research shows. Ten provinces and cities will be among this rank by 2025.
Half of the top 6 provinces and city are in the Yangtze River Delta - Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Zhejiang. Their combined sales in 2020 accounted for approximately more than half of that of China's whole IC industry.
In 2020, China’s IC industry sales reached RMB884.8 billion ($136.9 billion), up by nearly 20% between 2016 and 2020 - the 13th Five-Year Plan period. It is four times the global growth rate over the same period.
The Yangtze River Delta region held the most contracted projects in the first half of 2021, and top three provinces are Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong.
The JW Insights research report pointed out that these projects will help provinces and cities to sprint towards the 2025 target during the 14th Five-Year Plan.
By 2025, Guangdong’s annual IC revenue will exceed RMB400 billion ($61.9 billion).
Wuxi and Nanjing, key IC cities in Jiangsu, will each achieve the annual target of RMB200 billion ($31 billion).
Zhejiang’s IC revenue will surpass RMB250 billion ($38.7 billion).
Anhui and Hubei provinces have also proposed to make their IC revenue reach RMB100 billion during the 14th Five-Year Plan.
