WeRide(文远知行), an autonomous driving technology company, announced that its autonomous vehicles have driven 10 million kilometers on public roads, of which the mileage of fully self-driving exceeded 2.5 million kilometers.
WeRide hit 10 million kilometers through more than 4 years of continuous testing and operation in China and the United States. It has a self-driving fleet with more than 300 vehicles and accumulated immense autonomous driving experience and data.
Established in 2017, WeRide is headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It maintains R&D and operation centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, and Anqing, as well as San Jose in the U.S. It employs a highly skilled team with extensive domestic and international experience in R&D, business models, and business operations, according to the company’s website.
The company’s fleet includes different models of self-driving cabs (Robotaxi), driverless minibusses (Robobus), and driverless cargo vehicles (Robovan), running throughout the cities of Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Anqing in China, and San Jose in the U.S. It covers a variety of traffic scenarios from daytime to nighttime, CBD to urban villages, tunnels to highways, hot weather to rain and snow, and from passengers to cargo, producing a large amount of valuable autonomous driving data every day.
Since its foundation, WeRide has received strategic investments from global top-tier global automakers including Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, Yutong Group, and GAC Group. It is the first startup in the world to hold driverless test permits in both China and the US. It also launched China’s first Robotaxi service in November 2019 in Guangzhou, covering an area of 144 square kilometers.
