China’s tech giant Huawei was granted a patent for “Augmented Reality or Mixed Reality Headset” recently, according to Tianyancha, China’s corporate information investigation platform. It may be another achievement in the XR field for the company.

Previously it launched AR interactive experience app Starlight Tower and Hetu (Cyberverse).

The patent was applied in March 2018 and approved in 2022. The abstract from Tianyancha shows that the headset includes a bracket for accommodating an electronic device with a display screen and multiple reflection elements, through which users can see images.

Recently, IPRdaily, an intellectual property information service provider, released the TOP 100 global invention patent rankings for VR and AR in January 2020 and Huawei entered the top ten while Samsung ranks first.

In 2021, Huawei released Starlight Tower, a Hetu-based AR interactive experience app. It provides a variety of LBS AR gameplay, and users can see a world of virtual and real integration when they enter the App.

It is reported that Hetu, Huawei’s AR-powered mapping technology, integrates strong capabilities of 3D high-resolution mapping, space calculation, environment understanding, and virtual-real fusion technology. It enables mobile phones to calculate their position information to centimeters precisely, integrating virtual and physical worlds.

Lv Qianhao, head of the consumer end strategy of ZTE Group, once highly praised Hetu. He believes the platform is not only for pure AR mapping experience. Combined with Hicar, autonomous driving, and smart cockpits, it may generate a stronghold for the eco-system. It is comparable to the value of Kirin chip and Harmony OS for Huawei, according to Lv.
