Chinese charging chip producer Southchip Semiconductor(南芯半导体) released a high-efficiency/high-integration wireless charging RTX chip SC9621 for rapidly increasing demands from sales of smartphones.
Founded in 2011, Southchip focuses on charging management of lithium batteries, charge Pump, DC-DC, AC-DC power conversion, fast charging protocols, wireless charging, lithium battery protection, and other power management. The company is coming into a brighter market now.
The global wireless charging market was valued at $12.68 billion in 2020 and is predicted to reach USD 185.90 billion by 2030 with a CAGR of 30.0% from 2021-2030, according to market research firm NextMSC.
With more R&D input and industrial maturity, wireless charging is no longer a niche technology but an essential charging solution for mid-to-high-end smartphones. Research firm Strategy Analytics’ data shows the number of smartphones with wireless charging capabilities will grow from one billion in 2021 to 2.2 billion in 2026. Building a high efficient and wireless charging ecosystem will be the new development direction, industry observers said.
Southchip’s RTX chip SC9621 integrates industry-leading low on-resistance power FETs, which can significantly reduce the temperature rise of the chip during high-power charging, improving end customers’ experience. At the same time, it has high-precision output current sampling in the full load range, which can help its clients easily cope with harsh foreign object detection (FOD) tests, the company said.
SC9621 chip can be used as a 50W wireless charging receiver and a 15W wireless charging transmitter by adding power to its output. It supports direct charging and high-voltage direct charging technology to achieve higher charging efficiency and provide energy for other wireless charging receivers.
Wireless charging provides enhanced durability of electronic devices and ease of charging. The increasing sales of smartphones, the rising adoption of electric vehicles, industrial and healthcare applications for continuous power supply, and its ability to charge multiple devices simultaneously also boost the market growth, said an industry expert.
