VeriSilicon Microelectronics(芯原股份), a leading Chinese one-stop custom IC design service and IP provider, has officially joined the Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express(UCIe) consortium, the company announced on April 2.

VeriSilicon is one of the first companies in the Chinese mainland to join the consortium and will work with other members on the research and development of the UCIe 1.0 specification and its next generation technology standards. It will also promote its development of chiplet-based technology and products.

UCIe is an open specification that defines the interconnect between chiplets within a package, enabling an open chiplet ecosystem and ubiquitous interconnect at the package level.

Recognizing the needs of the industry, and the promise of the SoP, Intel, along with other major players in the semiconductor and Internet industry such as AMD, Arm, TSMC, ASE, Meta, Microsoft, Qualcomm, and Samsung, have launched the UCIe Consortium. The open industry standard organization is dedicated to promote and further develop the technology, and to establish a global ecosystem supporting chiplet design.

Dai Weimin, founder, chairman and president of VeriSilicon, said, “The efforts that VeriSilicon has made on the chiplet over the years have not only promoted the industrialization of chiplet, but have also taken its semiconductor IP licensing business and one-stop chip customization services to new heights. VeriSilicon is likely to be one of the first companies in the world to launch a commercial chiplet product for customers.”

Statistics from market consulting company IPnest show that VeriSilicon is the first semiconductor IP supplier in the Chinese mainland and the seventh in the world. Its growth rate ranks second among the top seven, and its IP types rank second among the top seven. VeriSilicon has six types of in-house processor IPs, namely GPU IP, NPU IP, VPU IP, DSP IP, ISP IP, and Display Processor IP, and more than 1,400 analog and mixed-signal IPs and RF IPs.

Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Shanghai, VeriSilicon provides platform-based, all-round, one-stop custom services leveraging its in-house semiconductor IP.

Under the unique “Silicon Platform as a Service” (SiPaaS) business model, depending on the comprehensive IP portfolio, VeriSilicon can create silicon products from definition to test and package in a short period and provides high performance and cost-efficient semiconductor alternative products for IDM, Fabless, system vendors (OEM/ODM) and large Internet companies. Its business covers consumer electronics, automotive electronics, computer and peripherals, industry, data processing, Internet of Things, and other applications, according to the company.
