GOODIX, a well-known Chinese IC and solutions provider listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange, announced its global expansion plan in its latest performance briefing. The company also appointed two industry executive veterans with more international operation experience as new non-independent directors.
Ms. Sandy Hu, the newly appointed president of GOODIX Technology (汇顶科技), told the briefing that “GOODIX is at an important stage in transforming from a single product to a comprehensive IC design company.” With its global leadership in fingerprint and touch IC and solutions, the company will strive to become a world-leading audio and IoT solutions provider.
She said she hoped to lead GOODIX’s transformation from global team integration, product planning, marketing and promotion, and customer relations and turn GOODIX into “a world-renowned semiconductor design company.”
Shenzhen GOODIX Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2002 by founder and Chairman David Zhang (张帆). It achieved its first big success with sensor IC, especially optical in-display fingerprint sensors. Its clients include top-tier smartphone brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, ZTE, Oppo, and Vivo.
Sandy Hu (胡煜华) was appointed GOODIX president in March 2021, responsible for the overall operation and management of the company.
For GOODIX’s global strategic plan and deployment, Sandy Hu outlined three major parts. The first is to expand the customer base to Korea, Europe, the United States, and other places worldwide. “We can be regarded as a renowned semiconductor company only when worldwide customers use our products,” she said.
The second is to build a diversified global market and seek breakthroughs in the automotive and IoT fields.
For example, GOODIX released an NB-IoT product solution last week, the world’s first NB-IoT chip integrated with security algorithms. This solution has been certified by China Mobile, China Telecom, and Deutsche Telekom.
The third part is to build a globally oriented human resource system with a better global operating system to attract more global semiconductor talents to join the company.
As part of this development, GOODIX appointed two seasoned international IC company senior executives as non-independent directors of the company: Xie Bing, former Texas Instruments Global President of Sales, and Gu Dawei, Mediatech Financial Director.
GOODIX is showing impressive performance. In the first half of this year, its revenue for non-fingerprint chips was RMB 420 million ($65.1 million), a 72% substantial increase year on year. It is attributed to the successful integration of NXP’s VAS business. The GOODIX’s voice and audio solutions have been widely used by mainstream smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi. It is also expanding to the automotive field.
In its IoT business, GOODIX’s shipments of health sensor products in the first half of the year increased by more than 15 times year on year, and the BLE Bluetooth products also jumped by nearly five times.
In the TWS earphone market, its multifunctional interactive sensors have been fully commercialized for top-tier customers such as OPPO, Vivo, and OnePlus. The shipments in the first half of the year increased by more than ten times year on year. The TWS earphone Bluetooth SoC is expected to come out in the second half of the year, thus boosting up IoT revenue for the whole year.
