An establishment ceremony for the officially called Guangzhou Bay Area Smart Sensor Industry Group Co. Ltd (广州湾区智能传感器产业集团)was held at the 24th China IC Manufacturing Annual Conference early this month. XingCheng Capital (兴橙资本) leads this investment with a planned registered capital of RMB10 billion ($1.6 billion). The first-round investment is RMB6 billion ($941 million) contributed by Shanghai XingCheng Technology (上海兴橙科技), Fujian Jinshenglan Sci-Tech (福建金盛兰科创), and Shanxi Xinmin Energy (山西新民能源). XingCheng said it would attract more partners, including international players, to join the project.
The MEMS sensor production lines in the project will be located in the Zengcheng district of Guangzhou City. They will include 12-inch wafer-level MEMS and SIP system-level sensor packaging and testing.
It is learned that the group will license technologies from Belgium’s IMEC, cooperate with the Shanghai Industrial μTechnology Research Institute (上海工研院) and the Intelligent Sensor Center (智能传感器中心), adding to the strength and resources of Guangzhou in China’s semiconductor industry.
