Shenzhen-based waste recycling company GEM told investors that up to now, it had been accepted into the supply chains of most of the world-leading battery manufacturers such as Samsung SDI, LGC, and CATL.

Professor Xu Kaihua founded GEM Co., Ltd. (格林美) in Shenzhen in December 2001 based on his green theories and manufacturing know-how. It became listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in January 2010 (Stock code 002340).

The company handles waste recycling, especially involving power batteries, electronic waste, and scrapped vehicles. It has become a leader in ternary precursors for power batteries.

According to the company's recent information released to investors in late November, GEM is working on the ternary precursors and cathode materials applicable for 4680 batteries.

Most of the major power battery companies worldwide are deploying 4680 batteries. By changing the structure, the 4680 battery can significantly reduce costs and substantially increase battery capacity, extending the endurance of electric vehicles.

GEM said that if the system integration is high enough, the 4680 battery can increase the energy density and safety requirements of ternary materials and reduce the production cost of ternary batteries.

The company is firmly optimistic about the compatibility of high-nickel ternary batteries with the world's high-end automotive standards. It can be useful in new energy vehicles with long battery life and high performance.
