Four Chinese smartphone manufacturers – Xiaomi, vivo, realme and OPPO, take up 63% of market shares in India, according to a recent Counterpoint report.

Indian smartphone market registered a year-on-year increase of 11% in 2021, shipping 169 million units. The top five brands are Xiaomi, Samsung, vivo, realme and OPPO, which account for a market share of 24%, 18%, 15%, 14% and 10%, respectively.

The Counterpoint report noted that Xiaomi led the market with a 24% shipment share and a 2% increase in shipment. The slower growth may attribute to the components and parts shortage in the second half of 2021. Another reason is the 258% growth of the Mi 11x series in the high-end market, which reached $ 400 (RMB 2,543.9) per unit.

Samsung is at the second slot. Due to supply chain breakage and market strategy issues, it had a decline of 8% in shipments and 3% in market share. However, Samsung 5G smartphone and foldable devices achieved great results.

vivo was at the third position, with a market share decline of 1%. However, it topped with 19% in the 5G smartphone field. It also expanded its market through its sub-brand iQOO.

Realme was the only top 5 vendor with a year-on-year market share growth. It ranked fourth this time with 14%.

OPPO remained the same of 10% market share and growth, but its shipment increased 6%, because it focused on middle and high-end markets, especially the latter, Counterpoint reported.
