Wu Shengwu becomes the new chairman of China’s leading IC company UNISOC, replacing Zhao Weiguo

Wu Shengwu(吴胜武) has become the new chairman of UNISOC (紫光展锐) - China’s leading IC design company, replacing Zhao Weiguo, who led the aggressive expansion of the debt-ridden parent company Tsinghua Unigroup, JW Insights learned. This is the latest major move after Tsinghua Unigroup was taken over by the Wise Road-Jiangguang consortium last December.

Qichacha, a leading business investigation platform in China, shows Wu’s appointment and Zhao’s resignation.

Wu Shengwu has served as Global Executive Vice President of Tsinghua Unigroup since 2019. He has a background in central and regional government departments and corporate management.

He is also the chairman of the board of directors of BIT Mining (NYSE, WBAI) since December 30, 2019.

Before joining Tsinghua Unigroup, he was the Deputy Director of the Electronic Information Department of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

From 2011 to 2016, he served as the mayor of Haishu District, Ningbo City of eastern China’s Zhejiang Province. From 2006 to 2011, he served as the Ningbo Information Industry Bureau director.

From 2002 to 2006, he served as the deputy head of Yinzhou District, Ningbo City. From 2000 to 2002, he served as the deputy governor of Yin County.

He also served as deputy secretary and deputy director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

He is currently a member of the All-China Youth Federation, an IT Workers Association executive director, and a part-time professor (master tutor) of the Ningbo University of Technology, Ningbo Institute of Technology, Ningbo University, and a visiting researcher of Zhejiang University Electronic Service Research Institute.
