Entrepreneur Zhang Wen has gone serial again and has launched a new company - Shanghai Yunji Autonomous Driving Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (云骥智行), reported Chinese tech media Jazzyear.

A Harvard doctorate and Wall Street lawyer, Zhang Wen has founded four companies since he returned to China in 2010. His previous venture Biren in 2019 was a successful GPU startup that has completed multiple rounds of financing totaling almost RMB5 billion ($791.2 million) from leading Chinese investors. He also started SenseTime – a leading AIcompany in China and had managed private equity funds in Shanghai.

His latest venture, Yunji, was registered in November 2021 and had won an angel investment of RMB2 billion ($316.6 million) from Hillhouse Capital, Walden International, and V Fund, according to Tianyancha, China’s corporate information inquiry platform.

Yunji focuses on advanced L4 autonomous driving general platforms involving core algorithms, sensors, and system engineering.

The company runs R&D centers in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Silicon Valley.

Its core team includes members who have engaged in autonomous driving and production at the earliest in the industry, with experience working for Apple, NVIDIA, Intel, SenseTime, and Xpeng Motors.

It has chosen to develop its business by engaging in close cooperation with western China’s Chongqing-based Cloud Suntek company for various autonomous driving applications.

Yunji’s platform will study algorithm frames applicable to different car models and environments through deep learning, prediction, emulation, mapping, software & hardware integration, and human-computer interaction.
