China’s leading IC industry city Wuxi in eastern Jiangsu Province reported a 25% increase in the industry in 2021, according to the city’s trade association.

The scale of Wuxi's IC industry reached RMB178 billion ($28 billion) last year,  with a year-on-year increase of 25.5%, higher than the national average of 17.5%. These statistics were released recently by Wuxi Semiconductor Industry Association.

There were other developments in Wuxi related to the semiconductor industry in 2021: The city was approved as a national pilot area for the bonded model of the whole IC industry chain last April. SK Hynix (China) was selected as the leading enterprise in this area with Hitech Semiconductor (Wuxi) and several other companies providing packaging and testing, logistics support, and sales service.

Wuxi High-tech Zone announced ten new policies on March 2, 2021, after comparing and analyzing the other 22 IC cities. This move has introduced both targeted and robust guidelines for the high-quality development of the IC industry.

Huahong Group’s Wuxi IC R&D and Manufacturing Base completed the first-phase project and reached target output on May 15, 2021. The planned production capacity of 40,000 wafers per month was achieved ahead of schedule.

Six IC companies in Wuxi won the National Science and Technology Award on November 3, 2021, including NCAP China, JCET Group, and Chipown.
