Chinese display technology leader BOE(京东方) has gained a net profit of RMB25.831 billion ($4.06 billion) in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 412.96%. Its chairman Chen Yanshun said BOE achieved the best operating performance in 2021 since its founding in April 1993.
“BOE has continued to rank No.1 globally in the five major application areas of mobile phones, tablets, notebook computers, monitors, and TVs in the mainstream display chip business,” said Chen in a speech on April 6. The company also achieved a monthly shipment of tens of millions of flexible AMOLED products last December, a milestone for the company.
BOE’s annual revenue reached RMB219.310 billion ($34.47 billion), a year-on-year increase of 61.79%. The net profit attributable to the parent reached RMB25.831 billion ($4.06 billion), a year-on-year increase of 412.96%.
Its investment in R&D exceeded RMB10 billion ($1.57 billion) for the first time, a year-on-year increase of 31.72%. It has been ranked in the top 10 in the global international patent application for six consecutive years and top 20 in the U.S. patent licensing for four consecutive years, of which it jumped to the 11th in 2021.
The company proposed the “IoT for Screens” development strategy in 2021, expanding its footprint in sensor, IoT and medical technologies and markets.
Founded in April 1993, Beijing-based BOE has evolved to become a leading technology company in China. With the display business as the core, it also develops sensor-based solutions, MLED, smart system, and smart medical devices. It went public in 2001 on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
