The Chinese indigenous open-source project, OpenAtom OpenHarmony has attracted more than 1.6 million community users and 44 special interest groups. It is learned at“OpenAtom OpenHarmony Tech Day” in Shenzhen on April 25.

OpenHarmony is incubated and operated by the OpenAtom Foundation with its founding members from leading Chinese technology companies such as Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Inspur, Tencent, 360, and China Merchants Bank.

This non-profit organization was registered in June 2020 and is the first of its kind in China. The OpenHarmony Foundation accepted the code related to the primary function of the smart device operating system donated by Huawei in September 2020, turning it into an open-source, and named the project OpenAtom OpenHarmony.

The open-source OS developments in the country have gained momentum after the U.S. sanctions banned Huawei from using Google’s Android OS.

According to press reports, OpenHarmony has amassed over 40 main warehouse code contributors and 63 million downloads worldwide, with over 55,000 codes submitted. It has become a reckoned open source force in the operating system of global intelligent devices.

More partners in the industry chain are joining the OpenHarmony ecosystem. Eleven mainstream chips have entered the leading OpenHarmony community, with the number of adopted chips estimated to increase to 35 by the end of 2022.

OpenHarmony is dedicated to building a framework and platform for the operating system of intelligent terminal devices, promoting the prosperity and development of the Internet of Everything industry. According to the foundation, it will continue to update its capabilities, support development tools, and resources, and launch a compatibility test platform.
