The robot was jointly developed by State Grid Wuhan and State Grid Hubei Electric Power Research Institute, which own independent intellectual property rights.

It is the first time for the robot to complete electrical work on a ten-kilovolt overhead line in the province. At the operation site, the robot can do the hand work of personnel on live line maintenance, identifying, positioning and grasping the electrical leads and the main line.

With the strength to work in complex environments, the robot can free human workers from the risk of personal electrical shock that they are exposed to, said Wu Xin, a technician from State Grid Wuhan power supply company, told China Daily.

The new technology used for live distribution lines has also filled the gap in the autonomous technology of ten kV live robots in Hubei, experts said.
