Kunshan, the technology city in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province, registered a 48.2% jump in IC export in May, according to the city government office, indicating the resilience from the Omicron lockdown in the March-April period. With one of the largest concentrations of companies from the Taiwan region on China’s mainland and as a global PCB hub, Kunshan's printed circuit board export also increased by 5.5% year on year in May.
During the Omicron lockdown, a large number of upstream and downstream companies in Kunshan had to suspend their production.
Kunshan's foreign trade data remained stable and improved in the first five months of this year. The total import and export reached a value of RMB247.12 billion ($36.9 billion) in the period, an increase of 0.8% over the last year.
The import and export data are particularly eye-catching in May, with the total value increasing by 8.8% year on year and 96.5% month on month.
Mobile phones have become the main driving force for Kunshan's export growth, surging by 261.8%.
