China’s Internet giant ByteDance (字节跳动) confirmed that it was considering to design and develop chips for its own development needs, but not for sale to third party, Chinese website IT Home reported quoting a DyteDance spokesman.
ByteDance started recruitment of interns for SoC design and verification in June this year as reported by JW Inisights. The job description for design & verification involves detailed design and simulation analysis of IP module front-end, chip testing and debugging, software and SoC related development.
There were earlier Chinese language reports on ByteDance self-developing cloud AI and ARM server chips.
ByteDance spokesman said that the company was exploring to design customized chips for self needs, because it could not find chips that can meet its requirements.
ByteDance will develop customized chips to handle video platforms, information and entertainment applications, said the spokeman.
ByteDanceis one of China’s largest technology company operating a range of content platforms that inform, educate, entertain and inspire people across languages, cultures and geographies.
