China’s leading battery producer Sunwoda (欣旺达) will supply battery cells to Volvo Cars through its subsidiary Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery (Sunwoda EVB), the company announced on December 3.
To have become Volvo’s supplier as one of the world's auto giants marks an important progress in the EV battery business and will help enhance its comprehensive competitiveness, said Sunwoda.
Sunwoda’s client lists include Dongfeng, Geely, SAIC, GAC, Renault, Nissan, and eGT. It has also established joint R&D programs with certain clients, according to Sunwoda’s semi-annual report 2022.
Founded in 1997, Shenzhen-based Sunwoda was listed on the ChiNext Market of Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2011. Sunwoda has become one of China’s front-runners in lithium-ion battery module manufacturer with extensive product lineups.
The company announced on the same day that Sunwoda EVB has signed an automotive electronics base construction project with Dianbai District government of Maoming City in southeastern Guangdong Province.
The project will focus on battery management systems (BMS), body control module (BCM), and vehicle control unit (VCU).
With an RMB4 billion ($574.4 million) investment, the project is estimated to reach an annual output of about RMB6 billion ($861.6 million) after going into production.
