(JW Insights) Apr 10 -- Chinese semiconductor startup Chem Semi(承芯半导体)'s high performance filter project - the company's second chip factory - has been completed and come into operation in the Wujin National Hi-tech Industrial Zone in Changzhou, eastern China's Jiangsu Province, the company announced on April 8.
Covering an area of about 114 acres (461,342 square meters), the filter factory has a maximum monthly production capacity of 20,000 units.
Founded in 2019, the Changzhou-based Chem Semi is mainly involved in foundry services for compound semiconductor wafers such as gallium arsenide (GaAs), filter design and manufacturing and sales. In 2021, the company achieved mass production of VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) and HBT (heterojunction bipolar transistor).
Chem Semi plans to build three factories. Its first chip factory mainly focuses on GaAs and filter wafers production. It began operations in August 2022, with an area of nearly 12,000 square meters. Chem Semi's third factory, which will focus on filter packaging and testing, is expected to be completed and put into operation this year, said the company.
Chem Semi raised over RMB1 billion ($150 million) in Series A financing in early 2022 to expand the second-phase production capacity, according to its website.
