(JW Insights) May 9 -- Chinese artificial intelligence pioneer iFlytek unveiled SparkDesk, its rival to ChatGPT, on May 6 in Hefei, eastern China’s Anhui Province, with a live demonstration for both consumer-oriented and enterprise-focused application.
Liu Qingfeng, chairman of iFlytek attended the launch event and introduced SparkDesk - its homegrown AI large language model. Flytek aims to exceed ChatGPT's capabilities in understanding the Chinese language and reach its standards in English, Liu said.
He said that the current SparkDesk has surpassed ChatGPT in text generation, knowledge Q&A, and mathematical ability. Three upgrades will allow the model to overtake ChatGPT as a whole by the end of October, added him.
At the event, Liu used voice-recognition prompts to ask SparkDesk in Chinese and English to assess student essays and compose hypothetical stories about Confucius' attendance at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The demonstration also offered the audience a chance to pose queries, said a China Daily report.
"The impact of this generative AI technology is no less important than that of the birth of the PC or the internet," Liu said. "We need to do our best to learn from ChatGPT," he said, "and even seek to surpass it."
Powered by AI techs, iFlytek's net profit will grow more than 30% annually beginning 2023, Liu said.
