(JW Insights) Jun 20 -- China gained more than 62% global market share of LCD in 2022 and is catching up fast in OLED. The Chinese manufacturers have made progress in comprehensive competitiveness with a stronger say in the global industry, said the newly released “JW Insights report on China’s display panel industry in 2022”.

In 2022, the global demand for consumer electronics declined severely, with panel companies reducing production. However, LCD panel production lines in China are still in the stage of capacity growth, said the JW Insights report.

Affected by the decline in panel volume and price, the revenue of global panel companies declined 21% year-on-year to $118.2 billion in 2022, most of which suffered losses. It was also the most significant decline in the revenue of the panel industry.

LCD panel import and export have declined in China. The import and export volume and value of LCD panels fell to the bottom in January 2023 and gradually recovered in February and March. They are expected to rise to a level similar to the second half of 2022 in the second quarter of 2023.

Chinese panel companies such as BOE, TCL CSOT, and Tianma Microelectronics have released various leading-edge products, mainly focusing on automotive/VR applications and high refresh rates.

With business in LCD panels, Chinese suppliers like BOE, Visionox, and Tianma Microelectronics, have also increased their resources and development in OLED panels.

LED industry chain companies HC Semitek (华灿光电), Sanan Optoelectronics (三安光电), HONGLITRONIC (鸿利智汇), Leyard (利亚德), Unilumin Technology (洲明科技), Focus Lightings (聚灿光电), NationStar Optoelectronics (国星光电), Ledman Optoelectronics (雷曼光电), have all accelerated layout in Mini/Micro LED technology and production capacity construction.
