(JW Insights) Aug 7 -- Global smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2023 dropped by 8% year-on-year to 269 million units, and eight Chinese brands were among the top ten manufacturers in the world, said the latest report from the market research firm TechInsights.
The top ten manufacturers are Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO (OnePlus), Transsion (the sum of Tecno, itel, and Infinix), Vivo, Honor, realme, Lenovo-Motorola, and Huawei.
Samsung's smartphone shipments were 53.5 million in the quarter, ranking first in the global smartphone market with a 20% market share. Apple shipped 43.1 million iPhones, accounting for 16% of the market.
The rest of them are all Chinese. Xiaomi and OPPO (including OnePlus) ranked third and fourth, with a 12% and 10% global market share, respectively. Transsion overtook vivo in the quarter to be in the top five for the first time.
Vivo slipped to sixth place, with demand declining in all regions except Africa and the Middle East. Honor experienced an annual decline due to the weak performance of the Chinese market in the quarter.
Realme returned to eighth place with a 4% market share this quarter; Lenovo-Motorola ranked ninth with a 4% market share, and its shipments fell by 13% year-on-year.
Huawei maintained its top ten position, posting double-digit annual growth in smartphone shipments in the quarter, largely thanks to its resilience in China.
