(JW Insights) Aug 25 -- Wu Xinzhou, former vice president of Chinese EV maker Xpeng Motors, has joined US chip giant Nvidia, he said in a post on China’s social media platform Weibo on August 24.

He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng, shared a photo with Wu Xinzhou and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, personally seeing him off and confirming the rumors of Wu Xinzhou joining Nvidia.

He said Xpeng will have deeper cooperation with Nvidia in the fields of AIGC and autonomous driving. Jensen Huang also mentioned that Wu Xinzhou would be responsible for business cooperation with Xpeng, adding, "Just that Xiaopeng doesn't have to pay his salary anymore."

Regarding Wu Xinzhou's new position at Nvidia, He Xiaopeng previously stated that he would serve as the highest-ranking Chinese executive at Nvidia. There have also been rumors that Wu Xinzhou will serve as the vice president at Nvidia, reporting directly to Jensen Huang.

Five years ago, Wu Xinzhou came to Xpeng after leaving Qualcomm from the US. He then built autonomous driving platforms including HNGP, CNGP, and XNGP. In the second half of 2022, Wu Xinzhou decided to return to the US. For over 10 months since then, he has been engaged in work handover, determining new work models, and optimizing and iterating architecture and organization.

In early August, Wu Xinzhou announced his departure from Xpeng. He Xiaopeng affirmed his achievements in building Xpeng’s autonomous driving team and expressed his best wishes for the future.

In the future, Li Liyun of Xpeng will take over Wu Xinzhou's work and lead the company’s autonomous driving team. In addition, Xpeng’s intelligent team will be restructured, integrating AD, cockpit, machine brain, EEA, and several innovative projects into a more powerful intelligent team, the Guangzhou-based company said.
