(JW Insights) Oct 20 -- RayNeo(雷鸟), an innovative AR-focused maker incubated by China’s display giant TCL, recently unveiled a series of new products and completed a round of financing in the tens of millions RMB, JW Insights learned.

Li Hongwei, founder and CEO of RayNeo, told a press interview that 2025 will usher in the year of AR glasses, with tens of millions of units in global market sales.

The major new products RayNeo launched is consumer-grade true AR glasses, which uses MicroLED plus Waveguide technology, boasting high brightness and low power consumption. The device features a transparency rate of over 85% and a peak brightness level of 1,500 nits, with a resolution of approximately 640x480 and a battery life of three to five hours. The company also introduced new XR glasses RayNeo Air 2 and Switch game partner JoyDock.

RayNeo has adopted the concept of AR Ecosystem 2.0. In the AR Ecosystem 1.0 phase, products primarily focused on large-screen viewing and gaming scenarios. However, in the AR Ecosystem 2.0 phase, the company believes that true AR glasses have great potential in AR gaming, social interactions, and large-scale empowerment scenarios. The company has enriched the content ecosystem of RayNeo X2 through collaborations with major ecosystem platforms like WebXR, native Android applications, and Unity.

Li said that the AR field is a platform larger than television, comparable in scale to the smartphone industry, and the future application ecosystem is a crucial source of revenue and commercialization. However, he acknowledges that the AR race is still in its early stages in terms of products, technology, hardware, software, and ecosystems.

“We have taken the most important first step in consumer-grade true AR with X2, but there is still much optimization to be done,” he added.

The RayNeo X2 is priced at RMB4,999($683), with an initial pre-order price of RMB4,499($614). The event also unveiled the RayNeo Air 2 with Sony’s latest generation MicroOLED screen, priced at RMB2,499($341), with an initial trial price of RMB2,299($314).
