Intel Capital has made a strategic investment in a Chinese power semiconductor design company Shenzhen Vergiga Semiconductor (威兆半导体), according to recent information on Chinese corporation registration platforms.
The investment will be used to improve Vergiga’s technology R&D, supply chain, quality management, technical marketing, high-end talent introduction, and hardware facilities said the company.
Vergiga Semiconductor has previously received strategic investments from OPPO, Xiaomi, Huaqin Technology, Suzhou Oriza Holdings, and Dynamic Capital. In July 2021, the company was recognized as one of the "Little Giants," a title designated by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, for those with mastery of key technologies, strong innovation capacities, and significant market share.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Shenzhen, Vergiga Semiconductor specializes in power devices and IC products. Its products cover MOSFETs and IGBTs, and are widely used in consumer electronics, communications, computing power, industrial control, and new energy vehicles.
Vergiga is one of the few domestic companies that successfully develop power discrete devices on 12-inch wafers and its clients include world first-tier companies.
The company has been upgrading its automotive-grade products and quality management system. It also has invested in the R&D of high-end silicon power devices and third-generation power semiconductor products.
