Professor Shen Hengtao (申恒涛) from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in southwest China's Chengdu City was elected a new member of Academia Europaea in 2022, according to JW Insights.

Professor Shen was honored as Fellow of ACM, IEEE, and OSA and one of the global highly cited scientists (2021).
He is currently the Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UESTC, the Dean of Sichuan AI Research Institute, and the chief scientist of Ubiquitous Intelligence at Peng Cheng Laboratory.
Shen received education at the National University of Singapore(NUS) and was awarded the first-class Honors Bachelor Degree and a Doctorate Degree from NUS's Department of Computer Science in 2000 and 2004, respectively.
According to the information from UESTC, Professor Shen has been engaged in the most cutting-edge computer science research, including multimedia search, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and big data management.
He has published more than 360 high-level papers in major academic journals, including over 130 IEEE/ACM transactions and 250 CCF Class-A papers. He has won the Best Paper Award in eight international conferences and journals.
