China’s semiconductor sales increased by 9.1% in May over the last year, a 1.7% month-on-month growth, according to the data released by Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) on July 5.
The SIA data also shows that sales increased by 36.9% in the Americas, 19.8% in Japan, 16.1% in Europe, and 15.8% in the Asia Pacific and all other regions compared to April 2021. However, sales in Europe decreased slightly compared with last month.
SIA said that the global semiconductor industry sales were $51.8 billion in May 2022, an increase of 18.0% over the May 2021 total of $43.9 billion, and 1.8% more than the April 2022 total of $50.9 billion.
SIA president and CEO John Neuffer said, "Global demand for semiconductors remained high in May, with strong year-on-year sales growth in all major regional markets and product categories.”
“Continuing high demand for semiconductors will require more chip research, design and manufacturing in the next few years,” he added.
