Chinese EDA startup X-EPIC (芯华章) announced on September 26 to integrate the core technology team of China's leading high-performance simulator software company Shunyao CAD (瞬曜电子), and its founder Fu Yong will serve as X-EPIC’s chief technology officer. This move is expected to enhance X-EPIC's system-level digital verification product portfolio and develop more competitive digital verification EDA products, JW Insights reported.

Wang Libin, Chairman and CEO of X-EPIC, who was a Synopsis and Cadence veteran, said, “China's EDA industry is ushering in a critical development period. The joining of Fu Yong and his team will further accelerate the iteration of X-EPIC's core technologies and expand the market, meeting customers’ growing demand for large-scale chips and system-level verification.”

Founded in 2020, X-EPIC is a leading Chinese EDA company focusing on digital verification based in Nanjing, eastern China's Jiangsu Province. The company proposed the concept of EDA 2.0 and has gradually established a complete digital front-end verification platform in just two years.

“Shunyao’s high-performance logic simulator, ShunSim, can well support large-scale system verification, and iterate quickly on the key verification links as soon as possible. Its core ultra-large-scale multi-threading simulation technology can strengthen X-EPIC’s services in the system design and verification,” said Lin Caiqin, chief scientist of X-EPIC.

This solution is up to 100 times faster than traditional simulators and can shorten the simulation and verification tasks to 3 hours from 7 days.

Fu Yong graduated from the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University with bachelor's and master's degrees. After graduation, he worked for world-leading companies including Samsung Electronics, Cadence and Synopsys with 25 years of experience in the EDA industry.

During his tenure at Synopsys as senior technical director, Synopsys achieved a compound annual growth rate of nearly 30% in the Chinese market.

In 2021, one year after leaving Synopsys, Fu Yong founded Shunyao CAD which focuses on front-end digital chip verification.

The company’s core R&D team has more than 25 years of work experience in Silicon Valley. It currently has branches in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and other regions.

“Verification is a technical height for building digital systems. I chose to join X-EPIC because I want to work with a strong team to create the next generation of digital verification solutions and achieve breakthroughs of EDA 2.0 using my technology accumulation,” said Fu Yong.
