Chinese EV giant BYD’s first phase of the new Shenshan industrial park in Shenzhen starts operation

The first phase of China’s EV titan BYD’s Shenshan industrial park in Shenzhen was officially put into operation recently; The first brake safety control system for BYD’s new energy vehicles smoothly rolled off the production line in the park, according to Shenzen media reports.

The first and second phases of Shenshan BYD Auto Industrial Park involve a total investment of RMB25 billion yuan ($3.5 billion). The annual output value is expected to exceed RMB110 billion($15.3 billion) after the entire plant is put into production.

On August 13, 2021, the Shenzhen Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone Management Committee signed a cooperation agreement with BYD Auto, which plans to invest RMB 5 billion($696 million) in the construction of the Shenshan BYD Auto Industrial Park. In October of the same year, the first phase of the industrial park broke ground. It covers an area of about 950,000 square meters and is divided into A and B plots. 

Upon completion of the construction, the facility will serve as an EV core part manufacturing base for BYD Auto, with an annual output value of about RMB10 billion($1.39 billion). 

On January 30, 2022, BYD inked another agreement with the Committee to spend an additional RMB20 billion($2.786 billion) for the second phase of Shenshan industrial park, covering an area of about 3.79 million square meters.
