Xinhua: Data highlights of China’s internet development

The latest China Internet Development Report 2022 was released by the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies on November 9 at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen in eastern China's Zhejiang Province. The report shows that:

China has achieved noteworthy developments in areas including the construction of internet infrastructure, the digital economy, and the improvement of digital public services, according to a Xinhua report.

China has built the largest-scale 5G in the world and continuously expands the use cases of 5G. By June 2022, 1,854,000 5G base stations had been built and put into use. The total scale of computing power in China ranked 2nd in the world by June 2022, said the report.

The value of China's digital economy, an important cornerstone of China's stable economic development, reached RMB45.5 trillion (about $6.3 trillion) in 2021, accounting for 39.8% of the country's GDP, said the Xinhua report.

By June 2022, the number of Chinese internet users has reached 1.051 billion, the largest number in the world, with an internet penetration rate of 74.4%.

With its large number of netizens, China has actively enhanced the inclusiveness of digital life and the efficiency of digital public services. 90.5% of provincial administrative licensing affairs have been accepted online and handled one time at most, said the report.
