China’s sales volume of automobiles in 2022 hit 26.757 million units, a year-on-year increase of 1.7%. The country’s sales of new energy vehicles will be 9 million units in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 35%, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) estimated on January 6.
CAAM calculated, based on data from the weekly reports of key auto companies in China, that in December 2022, car sales were 2.455 million, a month-on-month increase of 5.5% and a year-on-year decrease of 12.1%.
According to CAAM’s estimates, among the total automobile sales in 2022, passenger car sales were 23.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%; commercial vehicles sales were 3.3 million, a year-on-year decrease of 35.3%; new energy vehicles were 6.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 90.3%.
The industry association predicts that China’s total auto sales in 2023 will be 27.6 million units, a year-on-year increase of 3%. Among them, passenger car sales are expected to hit 23.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.3%; commercial vehicles sales will be around 3.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 15%; and new energy vehicles sales will be 9 million, a year-on-year increase of 35%.
