(JW Insights) May 4 -- China’s tech giant Alibaba cooperated with Primarius Technologies(概伦电子), a Chinese EDA solutions provider, to accelerate the promotion of EDA on the cloud and empower enterprise digital and intelligent transformation and upgrading, JW Insights learned recently.

On April 26, the 2023 Alibaba Cloud Partner Conference was held at the Yangtze River International Conference Center in Nanjing, eastern China’s Jiangsu Province. The president of Primarius, Yang Lianfeng, was invited to attend as a strategic partner of Alibaba Cloud in the electronic and semiconductor industry and announced the EDA cloud solution of their joint partnership initiatives.

With China’s integrated circuit industry in a new stage of development, it has become an important trend to migrate EDA to the cloud. It has a lot of advantages over traditional models in terms of high-performance computing power flexibility, agile environment deployment, collaborative process management, and IT cost. 

One of the most significant advantages of cloud computing for EDA is that it allows companies to scale their computing resources both up and down as needed, providing significant advantages from both an efficiency and economic perspective, according to industry experts.

As an emerging EDA company, Primarius has been committed to promoting EDA on the cloud, using the flexible configuration of the cloud to support different budget requirements at different stages, thereby reducing design costs and improving design efficiency. To meet the challenges of future chip technology, rich application scenarios, overall design scale and cost, it is possible to closely cooperate with the upstream and downstream of the entire industrial chain.

At the closed-door conference on semiconductor EDA on the cloud held April 26, Wu Weixiong, technical director of Primarius, was invited to give a keynote speech on China’s domestic industrial software innovation.On Primarius’s cloud EDA solutions, he said it is based on the company’s inhouse pan-analog chip and digital chip design EDA tools, and is highly integrated with Alibaba Cloud’s technology, data intelligence center, service platform, and other PaaS products. The architecture improves business iteration efficiency and user experience, and sets a benchmark for partners, according to Wu.

Primarius also won a cooperation award from Alibaba, which is not only a recognition of Primarius’s position in the electronics industry, technical strength, and innovative solutions.

Primarius was founded in 2010 and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange STAR Market in 2021. The Shanghai-based EDA company has already won international giants like Samsung, Micron, and TSMC as long-term customers with its world-class competitiveness. 

The company acquired South Korean EDA company Entasys Design in 2021 and set up a joint venture industry fund in Jinan, eastern China’s Shandong Province, to develop corporate venture capital(CVC) businesses with some incubated projects. It was another successful move by Primarious, commented an industry observer.
