(JW Insights) May 19 -- Three Chinese mainland display IC driver companies secured the top three positions in the global LCD smartphone display driver IC (DDIC) market share for 2022, according to a recent report by technology research group Omdia. They are Novatek (联咏), ILITEK (奕力) and Chipone (集创北方).
In 2021, the top two players were Taiwanese companies - Novatek and ILITEK, with market shares of 28.7% and 20.1%, respectively, while Chinese mainland's Chipone is in the third spot with a market share of 18.3%, compared with 8.4% in 2021.
Another Chinese mainland company OmniVision(豪威科技) also increased its market share to 10.8%, ranking fifth after FocalTech.
The report shows that the global demand for DDIC in 2022 amounted to 7.95 billion units, representing a 10% year-on-year decline.
In 2022, large-sized DDIC accounted for 69% of the total demand, 38% of which were LCD TVs. In the market for small and medium-sized DDICs, smartphones held the largest market share, accounting for 18% in 2022. Omdia also predicts that the total demand for DDIC will remain at 7.98 billion units in 2023.
As the world's largest consumer market for display products, Chinese mainland holds the leading market share for LCD panels worldwide, with over 60% of global production capacity in 2021.
China is to outpace South Korea and emerge as the world's largest AMOLED production base by 2024, said the Omdia report.
