(JW Insights) Jul 18 -- China's core computing industry reached RMB1.8 trillion ($250.91 billion) scale in 2022, showed the data from the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
China’s Ministry of Information Technology and Industry (MIIT) representative quoted this figure at the 2023 China Computing Power Conference on July 17, noting that China's computing industry has begun to take shape and is rapidly penetrating various industries including government affairs, industry, transportation, and healthcare. It has promoted the deep integration of the internet, big data and AI with the real economy. RMB1 invested in computing power is expected to drive RMB3-4 of GDP growth.
Over the past five years, the compound annual growth rate of the number of data center racks in China has exceeded 30%. As of the end of 2022, there were more than 6.5 million standard racks in use, according to MIIT.
MIIT plans to introduce policies to promote the high-quality development of computing infrastructure based on the latest developments in the computing industry, and to enhance the comprehensive supply capacity of computing power.
