MIIT: China’s integrated circuit production in the first half of 2023 decreases 3% to 165.7 billion units

(JW Insights) Aug 1 -- China’s IC production in the first half of 2023 was 165.7 billion units, representing a 3% decrease compared to last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced on July 31.

The revenue of the electronic information industry in China for the first half of the year reached RMB6.78 trillion($946 billion), a 4.2% year-on-year decline.

Mobile phone production amounted to 686 million units, a 3.1% decrease, with smartphones at 507 million units, down 9.1% year-on-year. The output of microcomputer equipment reached 162 million units, down by 25% compared to the previous year. 

Regarding exports, in the first half of the year, the export delivery value of China’s electronic information industry above the designated size fell by 9.2% year-on-year. In June, the export delivery value decreased by 13.1% year-on-year.

According to the customs statistics of the General Administration of Customs(GAC), China’s exports of laptops in the first half of the year were 67.19 million units, down 23.9% year-on-year, while exports of mobile phones were 351 million units, down 13.5%.

The exports of integrated circuits were 12.76 billion units, a year-on-year decrease of 10% in GAC’s data.
