China's installed renewable energy capacity goes up in January-July

(JW Insights) Aug 21 -- China saw a steady increase in the newly installed capacity of clean energy in the first seven months of 2023, Xinhua reported on August 20.

The newly installed capacity of solar power expanded 42.9 percent year on year to 490 million kilowatts, while that of wind power stood at about 390 million kilowatts, representing a yearly increase of 14.3 percent, data from the National Energy Administration (NEA) showed.

The country's installed power generation capacity totaled about 2.74 billion kilowatts, rising 11.5 percent year on year, the NEA said.

China has enhanced its renewable energy investment over the years as part of its pursuit of green development.

In the first seven months, the total investment of China's major power companies in solar energy soared 108.7 percent year on year to RMB161.2 billion ($22.39 billion), the data showed, said the Xinhua report.
