(JW Insights) Oct 9 -- China’s automaker SAIC Motor sold 482,000 vehicles in September, setting a new monthly record for this year, the company announced on October 8.

Notably, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) achieved double-digit growth both on a year-on-year and month-on-month basis. In September, SAIC Motor delivered 102,000 NEVs, representing a 29.6% year-on-year increase and an 18.8% month-on-month increase. This marked the first time this year that its monthly sales of NEVs exceeded 100,000 units.

From January to September, SAIC Motor's NEV deliveries reached 683,000 units, up 18.2% over the last year, firmly securing its position as the second-largest Chinese automaker by sales.

In September, SAIC's overseas sales hit 105,000 units, reaching a new high for the year. From January to September, SAIC's cumulative overseas sales totaled 838,000 units, surging 21.8% from a year earlier, solidifying its leading position among Chinese automakers in the international market.

SAIC's independent brand, MG, continued its impressive performance in the European market, with monthly sales reaching 28,000 units, doubling the figure from the previous year. MG ranked among the top in the new car sales rankings in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, and Ireland. MG ZS, in particular, achieved the top spot for monthly sales of a single model in the Spanish automotive market.

SAIC Motor has seen a continuous increase in quarterly vehicle sales. In the first quarter, its sales reached 890,000 units, followed by 1.18 million units in the second quarter and 1.31 million units in the third quarter. The company stated that in the upcoming fourth quarter, the traditional peak season for the automotive market, they will strive to achieve even higher sales targets.
