(JW Insights) Oct 17 -- Chinese EV maker Seres, which codevelops AITO vehicles with Huawei, said it is investing another RMB1 billion ($136.8 million) in the supply chain to ensure the model's smooth deliveries, reported China Daily on October 16.

Huawei-backed AITO has beaten expectations of the market, with orders so far for its M7 SUV soaring to exceed 60,000 units.

Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei's smart vehicle business unit, praised the manufacturing ability of the carmaker's smart plant on October 13.

Among other things, the state-of-the-art facility has over 1,000 robots, with key procedures completely automatic, reported China Daily.

Also, it takes just five seconds in the stamp workshop to finish a key component, which is at the world-leading level.

Besides its cutting-edge plant, Seres said it implements strict quality control standards.

It added that they are tested in terms of over 400 functions to ensure the vehicles are qualified. Also, each of the vehicles that roll off the assembly line will have their data uploaded so that it will be traceable.

The M7, available in five variants, sports Huawei's ADS 2.0 system, which enables high-level autonomous driving in both urban areas and on expressways without reliance on high-definition maps.

The outstanding performance is attributed also to the combination of 27 sensors, including one piece of rooftop lidar and 11 high-definition cameras.

The new M7 also features the Harmony operating system, which enables a smooth connection with the Huawei mobile phones, according to the China Daily report.
