China's MIIT Minister meets with Apple CEO Tim Cook

(JW Insights) Oct 20 -- China's Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Jin Zhuanglong, met with Apple CEO Tim Cook in Beijing on October 19, and they exchanged views on Apple's development in China, industrial chain supply chain cooperation and other issues, according to MIIT's Wechat public account.

Jin Zhuanglong said that China supports building an open world economy. The country will comprehensively lift restrictions on foreign investment access in the manufacturing sector and expand market access for digital products and other markets. He hoped Apple would continue to take root and invest in China, further improve the level of cooperation with China, actively participate in China's new industrialization process, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Cook said Apple is willing to actively participate in the high-quality development of China's economy, continue to promote green and intelligent manufacturing in China, enrich the developer ecosystem, and support the growth of industry chain and supply chain partners.

China's commerce minister Wang Wentao also met with Apple's Chief Executive Tim Cook in Beijing on October 18. They discussed Apple's China development and Sino-US trade relationship. Cook said Apple cherishes its achievements in its 30 years of growth in China and supports the U.S. and Chinese governments in strengthening communication and dialogue, maintaining stable bilateral economic and trade relations to create a suitable environment for pragmatic cooperation between companies from both sides.
